2024 Mustang GT with Performance Package -
486
Horsepower
On May 31, 2023 we ordered a convertible
Mustang GT in the new
Yellow Splash Metallic with the GT Performance Package, 10 Speed Automatic, active-valve
performance exhaust system, and MagneRide electronically adjustable dampers. We
also opted for the Bronze-Themed Package that provides the bronze wheels and
bronze badges as shown here.
Ford introduced the 7th-gen Mustang,
codenamed the S650 generation in the April 2023. We placed our order in
May and expect delivery sometime in the Fall - hopefully before the snow flies. The new engine, the Coyote V8, is
projected to make 480 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque as standard. This is
the most standard horsepower and torque in a naturally aspirated V8 Mustang
ever. However, the new active-valve performance exhaust system, we ordered, will
give us as much as 486 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque.
The basic GT engine's two new air-boxes,
teamed with a larger plenum intake manifold, steel oil pan, and camshaft
tweaks, result in a 20-hp boost (along with a 5 lb-ft deficit) versus the
third-generation engine. The new GT Performance package swaps out the standard
3.15 limited-slip rear for a 3.55 Torsen limited-slip unit, 19-inch wheels with
summer rubber, six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembos, stiffer springs,
additional chassis bracing, and an electronic drift brake, among other things.
As for the interior, it is completely
different from all previous models with a flat bottom steering wheel and huge
touch screens. Motortrend sums it up as follows:
“The standard 12.4-inch digital instrument
cluster and 13.2-inch infotainment screen in the 2024 Ford Mustang grab at your
attention like a bug zapper calling in mosquitos. Stretching across two-thirds
of the dashboard under a single piece of glass, with video-game-like graphics
animating the startup sequence and drive mode changes, these screens dominate
the new Mustang's cabin and any discussion of it.”
