Marie’s
Grandsons Visit Us in Owen Sound

Nolan and Evan

The summer of 2016 we
thought it would be a good idea to bring Marie's grandchildren to Owen Sound
from Halifax. At the time Cameron was 13, Nolan was 11 and Evan had just turned
10. Before they came we gave them a list of five activities that we could
do and ask them to choose two. Their challenge was to reach a consensus
through discussion which we thought would be difficult for three
brothers. Their choices were; the Science Center, the Toronto Zoo,
Niagara Falls, Wonderland and a Three-day camping trip. Well it wasn't as
difficult as we thought. They chose, Niagara Falls and the Toronto.
Shortly after they arrived
we headed out on our mini road trip. Before we left the gathered in front of
car and posed for a group photo. We started with Niagara Falls where we got an
all-day adventure passes for everyone. There were five activities we could do
as well as a free pass for the shuttle bus. We started with the Niagara Fury
Movie which was quite the experience. We thought it was odd that we were issued
rain coats on the way in to the theatre. About five minutes in we found out
they were needed when a whale breached on the screen and the splash continued
into the theatre.

The Journey Behind the Falls
was really interesting and one of the only dry attractions we visited. The
photo at the bottom right titled Below the Falls was taken at this attraction. However
the absolute best attraction was the boat ride to the base of the falls on the
Horn-Blower (the Maid of the Mist replacement). It was quite the experience and
as you can see by the photos below we all got very wet.

We stayed overnight at
Niagara Falls which gave us a chance to see the lights on the falls at night.
The next say we drove to Toronto to visit the Zoo. There was a lot of walking -
we must have walked about 10 miles visiting all of the animals.
When we got back to Owen
Sound we decided to take the boys for a ride in the convertible. First they had
to wash and polish it which is what you see Evan doing in the photo to the
left. The only problem with going for a ride was that the Mustang only
had four seatbelts and there were five of us. So we gave them a choice. They
could go with a fun driver or they could go with a slow, methodical,
safety-focus driver. Well they didn't hesitate. They choose to go with their
Nan and I had to stay home. They actually had quite the afternoon drive and
ended up in Wiarton where they visited Wiarton Willie as seen the the photos
below.
