Cousin Karen visits us in Florida 2024 |

Karen came down for a short visit for some well-deserved relaxation time. We picked her up at the Sarasota Airport on April 3rd and we were happily entertained by her constant witty comments for two weeks. It was a real pleasure to have her here and catch up on things. In between beach walks and pool time we reminisced of past family gatherings such as when the Hutton’s, Riley’s and Woyce’s.

Karen and Eileen visit us in 2024 |

Karen and Eileen dropped by for a few days last year and they liked it so much that they came back this year for a couple of weeks. It was a pleasure to have they back again. They both deserved some time off from their busy schedules. However they spent much of their time helping us, preparing meals and Eileen showed off her barbeque skills on more than one occasion.

Our Walks on the Beach in 2024 |

As many know when we are at our Florida Get-a-Way we really don’t do much and we don’t act as a host or tour guide for anyone who visits. What we do regularly is we walk Manasota Beach. It’s about a mile from the house we rented in 2024 and we usually walk for about 1.5 miles along the beach before we turn around and head home. All together we can do a five mile walk but most days it’s about 4 miles.

The Singhs Visit Us in Florida 2024 |

We arrived in our Florida house on 01 March and the Singhs joined us on 03 March. We spent an awesome 12 days with Cara, Mia and Heidi. We spent a lot of time on the beach looking for shark’s teeth and taking in the sunsets. We all had a great time in the pool playing games and splashing Heidi. We also managed to get a trip to Hobby Lobby in.

Visiting Crystal Springs Manatee Refuge |

We visited the Crystal Springs Manatee Refuge at Crystal River on our way to Englewood. Crystal River, about 90 minutes north of Tampa. It's one of the few places where you can snorkel with manatees and take a guided kayak tour among the manatees. We didn’t go snorkeling, but we did take the guided kayak tour.

Our Drive to Florida in February 2024 |

At the beginning of February, we started watching the weather to look for a break in the snow so we could get the Mustang on the road. With rear-wheel drive and 480 horsepower this car is unsafe with even light snow on the road. We finally headed out on our trip to Florida on Saturday February 24th. We spend three nights on the road starting with our first stop in Findlay, Ohio.

Camping at SACO River |

In August the Hutton’s and the Singh’s drove to North Conway, New Hampshire for a camping adventure at the Saco River Family Campground. Mia and Heidi had a great time and Heidi met a new friend. Samuel Menon from Boston. They seemed to bond over a short period of time and it seemed that they were always together.

One the the great attractions at the SACO River Campgrounds is tubing on the river. Pretty much everyday we walked our tubes up 1-2 kms up the river and slowly floated down past our campsite that was right next to the river.

A Drive to Cathedral Ledge |

While camping at SACO River we took a drive to visit Cathedral Ledge with our camping neighbours the Menon family. We all had a great time enjoying the views from the top of the mountain and saw some climbers climbing up the steep granite cliffs.

Karen and Eileen visited us in Florida in April 2023. They both have very busy lives so it was an opportunity for them to get away for some rest and relaxation. So, we didn’t plan any sightseeing outings. We spent much of our time lounging by the pool and walking on the beach which is exactly what we do most of the time when we are not entertaining visitors from the North.

Manasota Beach is Constantly Changing |

Manasota Beach is constantly changing. Every day we walk on the beach we see major changes in the beach structure. Today the changes were most interesting. Normally the beach is only 10 to 15 feet wide in the active area. Today it was 30 to 40 feet wide in the active area. The wave action exposed new sand which contained plenty of shark’s teeth.
